How Important is StumbleUpon?
Aug 6th, 2007 by admin

Having been blogging for almost a year I am always looking for more readers. So naturally I look to take advantage of social bookmarking services. There are plenty of these services - Digg, Reddit, Magnolia, Bumpzee and I could go on forever. The best of these services, in my experience, is StumbleUpon. What I do is - after each post I write, I stumble it or give it a ‘thumbs up’ through their toolbar. After about and hour, I receive 50 hits and by the end of the day sometimes I receive as much as 300 stumbling hits to my site. If your site is more popular or been around longer, it’s possible to get many more hits than just 300.

These charts above show the genre traffic I got for July 2007 at my other blog. As you can see referral is the lead of the pack. This is mostly because of StumbleUpon. Bloggers have to understand though that this traffic is superfluous - you still must have search engine traffic for your blog to go the distance. Just think of StumbleUpon traffic as a bonus. Also, if you liked this article about stumbling - stumble it!

I totally agree. My blog got stumbled today, and just got 200 visitors overnight, and also they convert better than diggers (Digg I find they read and leave). My RSS went up a little, got 3 more reviews and a couple of adsense clicks too!
Yeah, you’re right Rhys I rarely use Digg now because of how much targeted traffic I get from StumbleUpon.
Agreed StumbleUpon brings some very nice targeted traffic. It also has a great long term effect. I get stumblers for posts that were submitted 6 to 12 months ago. Digg does not do that!
Very informative article…. Being new to the “blog world” I find your site extremly helpfull. Gonna need guidance . Keep up the good work dude. Just gettin it out there. Peace
Hi—Brian:
I think that stumbling ones own posts are against TOS over at SU, am i wrong about this? Otherwise i would totally stumble my own posts. lol.
Let me know.
Missy.
