Has Money Changed John Chow?
Jul 31st, 2007 by admin

I started thinking about successful bloggers and how much money they make. I am able to get this information thanks to Paula Mooney. While reading the list of bloggers salary there are many high paid people in the business but I seemed to focus on one, John Chow. According to Paula, John Chow made $10,559.40 in the month of May 2007. Personally I do not mind John Chow, and like many of you I visit his site all the time. My point is though, money changes how people act, behave and maybe even blog.
The mere presence of money changes people, money enhances individualism but diminishes communal motivations, an effect that is still apparent in people’s responses to money today.

One observation is the evolution of his main page, check it out:

John Chow of Present:

In John’s case, I think that his priorites have changed over the years and his blog shows it. Which is fine, I just feel he should not be so obvious in his financial successes. What I am saying is that most of the time I would rather read an article from an inspiring young newbie blogger than a seasoned monster mogul.

Thanks for the link love.
Personally, I LOVE that John Chow posts his income, and has continued to do so as it increases.
It helps inspire people like me.
It’s not the love of money, it’s what you do with the money to help people. Especially the poor and widowed and fatherless.
And like a quote I read recently from Oprah said:
“Money doesn’t change people. It only magnifies who they already are.”
Peace and blessings be upon you and your household,
Paula
Good point Paula, but is John Chow really one of those people who help out the less fortunate? I do not want to say that sheer success has changed him, I am saying the money did.
I still visit his site time to time, and I also like to see where he’s making the most of his advertising options. But it’s almost liking watching a tv show like “Cribs” or “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous”, after awhile it gives off a feeling that is more of watching than DOING. A lot of people read his site, but if you think about it…all the followers are repeating it competing amongst eachother. It really helps to take a step away from the ‘herd’ and make themselves a ’star’ in their own right. Maybe doing what John Chow isn’t doing TODAY, is the best maneuver, but I think most aren’t thinking like that and may get burned out of blogging pretty quickly if it’s only for monetizing their site.
